Deep inside the flooded transit tunnels, a pulse returned through cables, bones, and rusted machines, waking every corpse the plague had failed to finish. Monitors lit up with no signal. Ventilation shafts exhaled warm black mist. Somewhere below the ruined towers, a human heartbeat was copied, amplified, and fed into the grid until the whole district began to move again. It was not resurrection. It was machinery learning what life sounded like, then wearing it badly. By dawn, the streets were full of bodies standing upright, their mouths open, repeating the same broken word: alive.
