The signal began as a whisper beneath the city's dead transmitters, a low pulse crawling through concrete, bone, and rusted wire. By dawn, every screen was bleeding the same command: decline consciously, surrender willingly, become useful in the collapse. The towers did not fall at once. They bent inward like infected spines, while crowds moved through the streets with empty eyes, guided by something colder than faith and older than code. Deep under the ruins, the machine kept breathing, feeding on memory, turning free will into static. Conscious Decline was not the end of civilization. It was the moment civilization understood what it had become - and chose not to resist.
