He had been tracking the signal for six days when the jungle stopped letting him leave. Not with walls — with repetition. Every trail looped back to the same clearing, the same cracked console half-buried in black root growth, the same low pulse vibrating through the soles of his boots and up into his jaw. His mask had cracked on day three. By day five he had stopped checking the filter. The air tasted of copper and wet rot, and it no longer mattered. Something in the frequency had rewritten the part of him that cared about survival. Now he knelt before the console, face turned toward the dark — eyes open, pupils blown wide, expression emptied of anything human. He was not afraid. He was not anything anymore. The jungle breathed around him. The signal held him in place like a nail through soft wood.
